To measure higher resolution fluorescence spectra, down to 2.5 K, we use a Jobin-Yvon Fluorolog with double double monochromators and automated polarisers. The later enble us to measure fluorescence anisotropy, and combined with temperature dependent anisotropy measurements, we can determine the relative angles between ground and excited state transition dipole moments. Using highly stretched oriented samples we can then determine absolute alignments of transition dipole moments with the long chain direction of a polymer.
